Je recommande fortement de supplémenter les chiennes et les chattes avec de l'acide folique durant leur gestation. Cette recommandation s'appuie sur des études démontrant son efficacité dans la prévention des fentes palatines chez le chien. Bien qu’il n’y ait pas à ma connaissance d’études similaires chez le chat, les fentes palatines restent quand même la principale anomalie congénitale chez les chatons. C’est pour cette raison que je pense qu'il s'agit toujours d'une bonne mesure de précaution.
